2019年5月14日カリフォルニア州サンタクララ発 – IoT World  – ハードウェア、シリコン、クラウド、OS から独立したエッジ コンピューティングのためのオープンで相互運用可能なフレームワークの確立を目指す Linux Foundation 傘下の統括組織 LF Edge は、 プロジェクトの順調な発展を発表しました。Project Edge Virtualization Engine（EVE）は、インターネット接続された自動車から風力発電までさまざまなエッジ / IoT アプリケーションのデモが IoT World でコミュニティによってオンサイトで披露されるのに合わせて、初期シード コードを LF Edge の設立メンバーであるZEDEDA から受領します。

さらに、LF Edgeは新しいアソシエイトおよびリエゾン メンバーとして、インダストリアル インターネット コンソーシアム（IIC）、ペンシルバニア州立大学 LIONS センター、OTAinfo、ニューハンプシャー大学インターオペラビリティ ラボラトリ（UNH-IOL）を迎えます。

Linux Foundation でネットワーキング、IoT、エッジ コンピューティングの統括マネージャーを務める Arpit Joshipura は、次のように述べています。

エッジ仮想化エンジンに初期シード コードが登場

アナリストの予想によると、2020年までには世界中で300億台のデバイスがインターネットに接続され、そのすべてから継続的にデータ ストリームが発生して、それをすばやく処理することが必要になります。エッジ コンピューティングは、ローカルのゲートウェイ システムによるデータ処理を可能にして、遅延を減らし、応答速度の向上を実現します。Project EVEでは、エッジ ゲートウェイとエッジ デバイスでさまざまなエッジ ワークロードが同時に処理されて、基盤となるハードウェアからアプリケーション マネージメントが分離されます。アプリケーションは標準的な仮想マシン（VM）またはコンテナ環境に展開でき、標準的なAPIのセットを使用して管理できます。

ZEDEDAの共同設立者で CEO の Said Ouissal 氏は、次のように述べています。

The expansion of the scope of liaison collaboration between IIC and LF Edge builds on the successful collaboration and further enables the digital transformation.”
