2018年11月6日サンフランシスコ発 – オープンソースを通じた大規模イノベーションの実現に取り組む非営利団体であるThe Linux Foundationは、幅広い分野のインダストリー リーダーおよびユーザー企業が、GraphQLプロジェクトのための新しいオープンソース ファウンデーション設立に向けて提携したことを発表しました。今後は中立的なGraphQLエコシステムを成長させ維持することに取り組みます。Linux Foundation傘下のGraphQL Foundationのミッションは、GraphQLと関連するエコシステムの開発を促進することです。

GraphQLの共同クリエイターである Lee Byron氏は、次のように述べています。

GraphQLは、2012年Facebookにより内部開発された次世代APIテクノロジーで、2015年にオープンソース公開されました。アプリケーション開発が柔軟性や市場への投入スピードを重要視したマイクロサービス アーキテクチャ向けにシフトするにつれ、GraphQLのようなツールは開発経験を向上させるためにAPI設計とクライアント サーバー インタラクションを再定義し、開発者の生産性を高め、転送されるデータ量を最小限にします。GraphQLは複数のプログラミング言語で使用できるためクロス プラットフォームとモバイル開発をシンプルにし、開発者が顧客のためにシームレスなユーザー体験を作り出すことを可能にします。
