From October 4–6 developers, software architects, engineers, and other Node.js community members will gather in Vancouver, British Columbia for Node.js Interactive — an event hosted by the Node.js Foundation. The conference features keynotes, presentations, and workshops that are aimed to help Node.js users better understand how to work with Node.js and JavaScript as well as best practices in contributing to the project.
The conference covers a range of topics for developers and end users alike including Node.js in production, security, serverless, diagnostics, education, IoT, AI, front-end engineering, and much more. We will also have mentoring sessions with NodeSchool and a special JavaScript Ecosystem track.
And of course, some awesome extra add-ons like a fun run/walk (totally optional) an after party hosted by IBM with special tunes provided by Dance.js and much more. You can view the full schedule here.
Today we are excited to announce a few more keynotes that will be joining us at Node.js Interactive! You can learn more about additional keynotes in this blog.
Kim Crayton, Community Engineer and Advocate
Kim is an advocate for diversity, inclusion, and safe spaces in tech. She has years of experience working with learners of all ages, skill level, and abilities and is now using her knowledge to develop technical people, ideas, organizations, and communities.
She shares her experience and research through many channels include “The Community Engineering Report” podcast (@CommEngReport), “Taming the Wild West: Strategies For Successfully Transitioning Into A Technology Career” workshop, public speaking, and #WeCanDoBetter, and soon with the Node.js community at Node.js Interactive.
Michael Dawson, Senior Software Developer, IBM Node.js Community Lead, IBM
Michael is a Node.js collaborator and the TSC chair who has helped on projects and features focused on platform support, post-mortem tooling, and production level performance that are critical to Node.js’ success in the enterprise.
Michael and his fellow IBMers have collaborated with the community to help support key components like predictable long term support (LTS), post-mortem problem investigation (node-report, IInode), the API stable module (N-API), and more.
Michael will speak about how IBM is building on these efforts to deliver an improved developer experience. If you are using Node.js in the enterprise, this is a must-attend keynote.
Cian Ó Maidín, Co-Founder and CEO, nearForm
Cian is a computer scientist — turned entrepreneur in the open source world. Cian founded nearForm, now the largest independent company contributing to the Node runtime in the world. Passionate about people and creativity Cian setup the Dublin Node.js UG and setup NodeConf.eu and tries to do positive things to support the project and the people who work to drive it forward. Adamant that we need to find new ways to think about OSS and how to support its growth and success.
Kris Borchers, Executive Director, JS Foundation
Kris is a champion and proponent of open source and open governance. As Executive Director of the JS Foundation, Kris leads the organization in its goal to drive broad adoption and ongoing development of key JavaScript solutions and related technologies. The JS Foundation also helps facilitate collaboration within the JavaScript development community to ensure those projects maintain the quality and diverse contribution bases that provide for long-term sustainability.
During his keynote, Kris will share how the JS Foundation is building the infrastructure to support and sustain JavaScript ecosystem projects at every stage of their evolution.
Along with Kris’ keynote, there will be a special JavaScript Ecosystem track. You can find more information on this track here.
NodeSchool
On Wednesday, NodeSchool Vancouver will be offering mentoring sessions during the day — topics will be added to the agenda shortly.
Code & Learn
After two-days of full sessions, there will be a Code & Learn. This event will allow you to get started with Node.js core contributions. Experienced contributors will guide you through your first (second or third or fourth…) commit to Node.js core. They are also available to provide impromptu guided tours through specific areas of Node.js core source code.
You want to get something added to Node.js or do you ever stumble upon an issue with Node.js that a forum simple can’t solve? Well what better way to get answers to your questions now or in the future by meeting the people that are building Node.js everyday. Currently there is a wait list for Code&Learn.
Interested in attending Node.js Interactive? Register to secure your spot today! You can receive $100 off the ticket if you register to become an individual member of the Node.js Foundation. If you are a student, tickets are only $100.
