New and returning Linux Foundation events provide neutral forums for the world’s leading technologists to meet, collaborate and innovate across open technologies
SAN FRANCISCO, January 7, 2016 – The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization enabling mass innovation through open source, today announced its 2016 events schedule. Linux Foundation events are where the creators, maintainers and practitioners of the world’s most important open source projects meet. Linux Foundation events in 2015 attracted nearly 15,000 developers, maintainers, sysadmins, thought leaders, business executives and other industry professionals from more than 3,100 organizations across 85 countries.
Open source continues to dominate software development, with more companies than ever using collaborative development to accelerate technology and drive innovation. Linux Foundation events enable attendees to see technology trends early and influence the evolution of the world’s largest shared technology resources. The Linux Foundation’s 2016 events bring together the industry’s best talent and most influential developers, maintainers and sysadmins to examine trends in open source, including Big Data, cloud native applications, containers, IoT, Linux, networking, security, and more.
“The world’s most innovative technologies are made possible by individuals and companies working together to build common, open source infrastructure,” said Jim Zemlin, executive director at The Linux Foundation. “Linux Foundation events are where the world’s best technologists meet, collaborate and advance the greatest shared technologies of our time. They are also the place to identify technology trends early, as open source developers and IT managers start projects or advance their ideas during these in-person opportunities.”
The Linux Foundation’s original event, its Collaboration Summit, started in 2007 and returns this year with a renewed focus on cross-collaboration between open source projects. In addition to tracks focused on specific project areas, such as open networking, IoT, Big Data and containers, there will be tracks dedicated to topics that apply to all projects, including security; governance, operations and ecosystem development; licensing and IPR; training and certification; and open source business program development. The Linux Foundation’s Collaboration Summit is the venue to learn how to manage external R&D and maximize collaborative development and open source for technology innovation and business results.
New Linux Foundation events in 2016 include the Open Networking Summit, the leading event covering the technologies and projects across SDN, NFV, and the open networking space; and the OpenIoT Summit, an event that will join Embedded Linux Conference North America and bring together embedded and application developers with systems architects and firmware developers to advance the technical work required for the future of IoT.
