Agenda Open Systems, Apprenda, Doky.io, Exablox and Rausch Netzwerktechnik GmbH increase investments in Linux and collaborative development

SAN FRANCISCO, October 22, 2015 – The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux and collaborative development, today announced that Agenda Open Systems, Apprenda, Doky.io, Exablox and Rausch Netzwerktechnik GmbH are joining the organization.

Industry reports estimate that 48 million applications will be available on the cloud by 2016 (Global Technology Outlook: Cloud 2014: A More Disruptive Phase), making cloud-based software more prevalent than ever. This evolution has led to new infrastructure-as-a-service models in IT – such as container technologies – being adopted to match the growing data and scale demands placed on enterprise networks. Today’s newest members represent this trend and are investing in Linux and collaborative development to advance these technologies.

Recent Linux Foundation Collaborative Projects that support this work include Cloud Native Computing Foundation, the Open Container Initiative and the Kinetic Open Storage Project,  among others. The Linux Foundation also publishes an annual Open Cloud Directory that outlines some of the most popular open source cloud projects: https://www.linuxfoundation.org/publications/linux-foundation/guide-to-the-open-cloud.

More information about the newest Linux Foundation members:

Agenda Open Systems is one of the largest Slovenian providers of open source software. The company combines a full range of services throughout the software development cycle including analysis, planning, implementation, use of solutions, support and maintenance services.

“We are excited to deepen our presence in the open source community,” said Mr. Andrej Kositer, CEO at Agenda Open Systems. “Becoming a member of The Linux Foundation means that we are able to collaborate with other IT leaders who understand that software developed out in the open leads to greater innovation and faster deployment of next generation technologies.”

Apprenda is a leading enterprise Platform as a Service (PaaS) company powering the next generation of enterprise software development in public, private and hybrid clouds. As a foundational software layer and application run-time environment, Apprenda removes the complexities of building and delivering modern software applications, enabling enterprises to innovate faster.

“Apprenda is committed to providing a superior platform for building and delivering software – one that makes developers more productive, maximizes IT investments and enables faster innovation with minimized risk,” said Sinclair Schuller, CEO, Apprenda. “Joining The Linux Foundation shows our deep commitment to interoperability and will enable us to connect with a vast ecosystem of open source technologies.”

Doky.io strives to be the fastest, most secure, easy-to-use, robust, accessible cloud operating system available for software developers. By delivering a fully collaborative development platform in the cloud, Doky provides the ability to collaborate on code virtually: all devices, all teams, real time. With cloud applications built for developers, and enterprise-level services in terms of security, encryption and scalability, software developers have for the first time ever a frictionless, productive and cost-efficient development environment.

“We are a team of passionate technologists and understand that the best innovations come from collaborative effort,” said Francesco Tripepi, Founder & CTO, Doky.io. “We are very excited to work with other Linux Foundation members to further realize our vision of providing intuitive, fully collaborative and visionary solutions for software developers!”

Exablox is the award winning company reimagining storage. Exablox solves businesses’ runaway storage costs and information management nightmares by providing a cloud-managed, scale-out object-based solution that is affordable and easy to use. OneBlox is an inclusive storage offering that combines an elegant hardware architecture and integrated, enterprise-grade software, including inline deduplication, continuous data protection and disaster recovery.

“Today’s rate of data growth is unprecedented, magnifying the pain points associated with inflexible scale-up legacy storage solutions’ inability to respond to rapid changes in businesses storage requirements. Customers are looking for new storage platforms that can keep pace. We joined The Linux Foundation to collaborate with other industry leaders to broaden innovation in the Linux ecosystem, around new open storage architectures,” said Tad Hunt, CTO and Co-founder, Exablox.

Rausch Netzwerktechnik GmbH is a manufacturer and distributor of individual and standard server and storage systems for data centers. Its wide range of products include various high density storage solutions like the award winning BigFoot Object, a chassis which supports the Kinetic Open Storage Project.

“By becoming a member of The Linux Foundation, Rausch gains instant access to the organizations and developers responsible for advancing cloud computing,” said Sebastian Nölting, CEO, Rausch Netzwerktechnik GmbH. “We are eager to collaborate with our peers to overcome obstacles we all face, freeing ourselves to focus where we can provide the most value for our customers.”

“The rate of growth across IT – data, connected devices, cloud computing, applications, to name a few areas – has set a pace for innovation that only open source software development can match,” said Jim Zemlin, executive director, The Linux Foundation. “These new members illustrate this ever-evolving ecosystem and the increasing role of Linux and open source technologies to support growing business demands.”
