Creator of Linpus Lite Joins Linux Foundation

Consumer PC Linux distro to participate in MeeGo project

SAN FRANCISCO, April 1, 2010 – The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux, today announced that Linpus Technologies is its newest member.

Linpus is a popular Linux distribution for the consumer PC market with a long history of shipping on notebooks and netbooks for many of the world’s largest OEMs. It is becoming a member of The Linux Foundation to play an ongoing role in the MeeGo project and other community initiatives that advance Linux’s competitive position for a new generation of computing devices.

“We’ve been working with Linux for consumer PCs and netbooks for more than a decade and look forward to supporting the platform and collaborating with the community to see its rapid acceleration in this space in the decade ahead,” said Rita Jing, vice president of sales, Linpus Technologies. “Linux has very clear advantages in the mobile computing market of the future, and we’re excited to be part of the community to prepare it for its mass adoption in this space.”

Linpus has been at the forefront of creating consumer-ready Linux. It was one of the first companies to actively address device requirements for more computing power, better battery life and faster boot-up times, creating its web and netbook-centric operating system Linpus Lite in 2007. Linpus Lite was subsequently chosen as the Linux distro for the Acer Aspire One, among others.

Linpus was also a key Moblin Operating System Vendor (OSV) for nearly two years, creating one of the first Moblin-based operating systems used in a commercial product.
