Disaggregated Network Operating System (DANOS) が、ネットワーク スタック全体のイノベーション推進を目指しコミュニティと協力

2018年3月27日ロサンゼルス発 (Open Networking Summit) – The Linux Foundation は、ネットワーク ハードウェア / フォワーディング / オペレーティング システム 各レイヤー間のコミュニティ コラボレーションを推進するDisaggregated Network Operating System (DANOS) プロジェクトを発表しました。DANOSは、従来のネットワーク オペレーティング システムに代わるオープンで費用効果が高くフレキシブルな代替ソフトウェアである AT&Tの“dNOS”ソフトウェア フレームワークに基づいています。今後はThe Linux Foundationがホストするプロジェクトとして、標準化された分散ネットワーク オペレーティング システム (NOS) の構築に向けて、補完的なオープンソース コミュニティからのコントビューションを受け入れます。

NOSの作成は、ネットワーク内の各デバイスがそれぞれのOSを必要とするため、ソフトウェア / ハードウェア要件の複雑さと規模が原因で、歴史的に困難な状況が続いていました。しかし、オープンソースの成長がソフトウェアとハードウェア両方の進歩と組み合わさることにより、先進的なネットワーク アプリケーション、新しくオープンなテクノロジー、オープンで柔軟なNOSをホストするビルディング ブロックのエコシステムが発展しました。
