Canonical, DigitalOcean and LiveWyer help advance development of cloud native technologies for building modern distributed applications
SEATTLE – CloudNativeCon/KubeCon – November 8, 2016 – The Cloud Native Computing Foundation, which is sustaining and integrating open source technologies to orchestrate containers of microservices, today announced that Canonical, DigitalOcean and LiveWyer have joined the Foundation to drive adoption of container and microservices technologies and to accelerate a cloud native computing paradigm.
These new members have joined a rapidly growing community of more than 65 CNCF members and numerous developers who are passionate about advancing open source innovation, improving the developer experience and removing the complexity from enterprise container management and microservices architectures.
“We’re excited to have Canonical, DigitalOcean and LiveWyer join the Foundation,” said Dan Kohn, Executive Director of Cloud Native Computing Foundation. “The cloud native approach is crucial for enterprises wanting to run at scale and the demand for agile, dynamically-orchestrated technologies is taking off. CNCF is fortunate to be able to add experts from these companies to its wide-ranging community. We’re excited to work with them to make cloud native technologies more successful.”
CNCF’s newest members are joining more than 1,000 cloud native developers, users and experts in Seattle for CloudNativeCon + KubeCon, which kicks off today.
About the newest members:
Canonical is the company behind Ubuntu, the leading OS for container, cloud, scale-out and hyperscale computing. 65% of large-scale OpenStack deployments are on Ubuntu, using both KVM and the pure-container LXD hypervisor for the world’s fastest private clouds. Canonical provides enterprise support and services for commercial users of Ubuntu.
“We believe in the power of the open source community and understand that cloud native technologies represent a new world of opportunity for today’s modern enterprises,” said Dustin Kirkland, who leads Canonical’s platform products. “Canonical recently expanded its enterprise container portfolio with a commercially supported distribution of Kubernetes. We look forward to working more closely with CNCF to ensure technologies like Kubernetes, Prometheus and OpenTracing continue to flourish.”
DigitalOcean is the cloud for developers and was just named to the first-ever Forbes Cloud 100 – the definitive list of the world’s top-tier private companies leading the cloud technology revolution. The company is simplifying the complexities of infrastructure by offering the fastest and easiest way for developers and businesses to deploy and scale any application in the cloud.
“At DigitalOcean, we’re focused on enhancing the developer experience,” said Greg Warden, VP of Engineering at DigitalOcean. “We look forward to working with CNCF to support the open source community, advance cloud native technologies and services, and make it even easier for developers to deliver distributed applications on a global scale.”
DigitalOcean Software Engineer, Mac Browning, will speak about the use of DigitalOcean Control Center to simplify the user’s interface with Kubernetes in the breakout session “Delivering Services at DigitalOcean.”
LiveWyer is a delivery-focused infrastructure development company, passionate about delivering and managing Kubernetes, enterprise DevOps, cloud technology integration and automation support through serverless deployments. The company provides agile professional services and access to the latest enterprise innovations and train partner IT teams on site security, productivity and long-term stability.
“The LiveWyer team is committed to helping businesses transition to container-based technologies, like Kubernetes,” said David O’Dwyer, Founder at LiveWyer. “Cloud native technologies allow enterprises to scale their infrastructures up and down seamlessly and achieve our customers’ operational goals. We welcome the opportunity to join CNCF and work more closely with the rapidly-growing cloud native community.”

About Cloud Native Computing Foundation
Cloud native computing uses an open source software stack to deploy applications as microservices, packaging each part into its own container, and dynamically orchestrating those containers to optimize resource utilization. The Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) hosts critical components of those software stacks including Kubernetes, Prometheus and OpenTracing; brings together the industry’s top developers, end users, and vendors; and serves as a neutral home for collaboration. CNCF is part of The Linux Foundation, a nonprofit organization. For more information about CNCF, please visit: https://cncf.io/.
